In May 2025, DAV, DGVFM and actupool initiated the first Actuarial Career Meetup.

The event is tailored to inspire students and graduates from relevant fields of study to explore the diverse career opportunities of the actuarial profession and to provide them with concrete career pathways.

With three Meetup Partner Companies and 19 Network Partners, the Actuarial Career Meetup combined practical insights into the field of actuarial work with the benefits of a digital career event.

Resilient Buildings

Summary of the 'Resilient Buildings' project by Dr. Julie Clarke and Dr Paul Nolan, which they will be presenting: "Extreme weather events, which are increasing in frequency and intensity due to climate change, may cause significant damage to housing, commercial property and critical infrastructure, resulting in substantial costs, as well as health and well-being impacts. Some of the main risks to buildings in Ireland and their occupants include flood damage, heat stress, structural damage due to wind and driving rain, as well as coastal erosion. However, these risks are currently not well understood in terms of the spatial variation (i.e. where they are), as well as the temporal variation (i.e. how they change over time). The proposed research will support Ireland's goal of becoming climate resilient by 2050 by quantifying the risk to buildings in Ireland as a result of climate change impacts. The project will consider various climate hazards and consider these in conjunction with building vulnerability attributes to quantify the risk. The project will develop a risk index for buildings in Ireland due to climate change impacts. This will inform stakeholders of the spatial and temporal risk for building locations due to climate-related hazards, enabling targeted and specific adaptation measures to be determined for the built environment. This index will support building owners, local authorities, insurers, banks, as well as other key stakeholders in terms of climate change adaptation, helping to deliver Ireland's goal of becoming climate resilient by 2050."

In May 2025, the IAA Sections will host its 1st event in South America, "JoCo São Paulo 2025" at the invitation of the Instituto Brasileiro de Atuária (IBA).JoCo2025 will gather IAA Section members and actuaries from Brazil and from across the world around a unique theme of "Actuaries in Sustainability", to discuss the latest research and actuarial challenges arising from new fields of professional and academic activity as well as from traditional actuarial work, and including work and interpretations of the concept of "sustainability".What is the actuarial interpretation of “sustainable”? The concept interacts deeply with the actuarial profession, and it can be understood differently in different contexts: about the financial sustainability of risk sharing mechanisms, or regarding economic growth and the resilience of the financial sector, or in terms of the uncertainty arising out of environmental and climate concerns, or in the context of global efforts to ensure the well-being of all. 40 Jahre IVS – ein Jubiläumsfilm

Mit der Gründung des IVS im Jahr 1980 wurde die Entwicklung und Förderung eines eigenständigen, anerkannten Berufsbildes der Versicherungsmathematischen Sachverständigen für Altersversorgung angestoßen, das sich bis heute erfolgreich etabliert hat.Die Zahl der Mitglieder des IVS ist in den letzten 40 Jahren kontinuierlich gestiegen. Allein zwischen den Jahren 2000 und 2010 hat sich die Mitgliederzahl von rund 300 auf über 600 mehr als verdoppelt und heute einen Stand von 830 erreicht. Damit steht eine große Zahl sehr gut ausgebildeter Sachverständiger bereit, sich den aktuellen Herausforderungen im Bereich der Alterssicherung zu stellen und einen entscheidenden Beitrag für sachgerechte Lösungen zu leisten.

The Young Actuaries Initiative (YAI) launched its activities with a “Leadership and Career Development Seminar,” held on November 28-29, 2024, at Le Bischenberg, close to Strasbourg, France. This two-day event brought together 30 talented young actuaries from across Europe for an engaging and interactive program. While the agenda also included sessions on technical actuarial topics, the focus was on enhancing communication and leadership skills through workshops designed to foster active participation and collaboration. The seminar’s social and professional aspects were equally well-received, providing participants with valuable insights and a platform for building meaningful connections.
